Ted Pennington | Nashville Mix Engineer, Producer, Musician
Ted Pennington | Bio
Ted Pennington is a freelance Engineer, Mixer, and Producer living in Nashville, TN.
From the age of 2 ½ Ted was exposed to music, learning the violin through the Suzuki method. He picked up mandolin and guitar as a teenager and by college was playing in a band on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar (acoustic and electric versions of all three). The band evolved into a six-piece outfit, playing over 200 dates a year all over the country and eventually being signed to a small record label run by Butch Trucks (Allman Bros. Band).
Having been exposed to some of the technical aspects of audio at an early age, running sound for his school's theater 6 years, it didn’t take much for him to realize that he enjoyed the technical aspects of audio as much as playing itself. Years later, through the experience of making several records with the band, this passion was further fueled, as he fell in love with the art of recording, and decided to pursue a career on the other side of the glass.
With his sights keenly set on a career in the recording/ audio engineer industry, Ted attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and was awarded a merit-based scholarship for violin performance. He was then accepted into Berklee's prestigious Music Production and Engineering program where he studied under some of the best and brightest faculty and industry professionals in the world.
After landing in Nashville, Ted began his professional recording career at Sony/Tree Recording Studios. Countless hours assisting on projects quickly turned into projects and clients of his own, ultimately taking him into a freelance career, working in studios all over Nashville. Working freelance, as is common among many engineers in town, has allowed him to not only gain experience in a wide variety of studio environments, equipment, and consoles, but also allowed him to meet and work with a myriad of writers, artists, players, and other engineers. This has also afforded him the experience of working in many different genres and employing a broad spectrum of recording and production techniques.
Ted has worked with writers, artists, and musicians such as Mike Willis, Viktor Krauss, Big and Rich, Jerry Foster, Cowboy Troy, Clay Evans, Wild Honey (CMT’s Can You Duet), Victoria Gibson, Jimmy Stewart, Megan Burtt, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig (of Lucius), Steve Dean, Jim Marrett, Larissa Maestro, Kyle Ryan, Madeline Slate, Gavin Slate, Megan Conner, Alison Parsons, Marsha Hancock, David Dorn, and Chris Cline (CMT’s Can You Duet)
